SUGGESTED MESSAGE FROM THE KING.
(SPECIAT. TO "THE PRESS.") . WELLINGTON, May 19. At a recent meeting, of the oommatteo whitih has in hand! the arrangements l£or the local celebration of the Coronation ceremonies, it was suggested that King Edward should be asked to apeak a message to tihe people of New Zealand into a phouograph, which could ba repealed in due course. His Excellency the Governor was communicated with, and the Mayor has now received the following reply, through Captain Alexander, private secretary:—"Tho Governor has received a cable from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, regretting that he is unable to advise their Majesties sending ; a phonograph message to tine people of Wellington." "H this were done for one colony,' he adds, "it would have to be done (for all."
