NOTES FROM DUNEDIN.
(srxciAi. to '•thk pkkss.") DUNEDIN, May 19. As an instance of the vigilance with which the quarantine regulatdons • are being , enforced, Dr. Ogston, the local h-ealth offioer, received a telegram from Wellington last iveek. instructing, him to take proceedings againeb' ii woman who hnd slipped away without reporting .hersslf.. in the require*!; manner. The fact having b&an established; however, that the lady had misunderstood wiat she was to do, no ftirth«r steps will be token. A wild rumour by some means got about the town that there were several cases of plague in the NorUi-East Valley and th-e north end of the town. Br. Ogston i"e]»rts this to be quite without foundation. Dr. Ogston oonsid«rs the proposal of the Mayor for an infectious diseases hospital a good one. • Th« proposal is to procure a , hulk, wihich could be moored perha.ps across tic harbour. Plenty of hulks are available, and a oommunciation will accordingly bo made with the Health Department.about the matter.
