(PBZSS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, May 19. It is reported from Cook Island, ncr the Ova!au, that the- Resident Commissioner, ColontS Gudgeon, has appointed an Island Council at Palmcrston, and has appointed Mr Masters as native m*gistrate at Niue. The "Cook Island Gazette* contains four ordinances which have received the sanction of the New Zealand Government. Penhrvn Wand is to be included in the Act, imposing taxes on traders, penalties will be "inflicted on any section of the community who skatl screen any member thereof convicted cf theft, and restrictions axe paced on the sal-e of cocoanuts and pearlsheli- As a result of the imposition of the New Zealand tariff, one large Tahiti firm has commenced business at Mangaia, ar-d another Is negotiating for premises at Raratonga.
