(P—ESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, April 17. Tho first day's meeting of the Wellington Racing Ciub will be held on Wednesday next, instead of Thursday. PLUMPTON PARK TROTTING CLUB. A start was made with the Autumn Meeting of the Plumpton. Park Trotting Club yesterday in Derfect weather. The special train from town was well patronised, and a very largo number journeyed out by road. Tho course was in first-class order though a little dead in patches, which was against fast time making. Amongst "the visitors present were the Hon. J. C. Carroll and several members of the Maori Coronation Contingent During the afternoon the Native Minister was entertained by the stewards, and Mr J. L. Carl, as president of the Club, expressed the pleasure it gave them to see the interest taken by Mr Carroll in their racing. Mr Carroll, in. response, said -lie had always taken a great deal of interest in trotting 1 and ho could compliment the stewards of tho Plumpton Ciub on their efforts to make the sport a healtshy one. The sum of £2753 was passed through the totalisator as against £3535 handled on tho opening day of last year's Autumn Meeting. Before getting to the 'hiomo turn Impu.ee had taken charge, and, going on, won comfortably by six lengths. With half the diistance gone, Coin had got to Laughter, and from this out had the result in safe keeping, eventually winning by four lengths. Gambler maintained a slight lead for the first furlong, when Whisper ran past him, end at the half-mile post she was just showing clear of-Senator and Carl. Little change took place all through the first round, and at the stand the order was Whisper, Senator, St. George, and Carl. , Rosetta was at the head of the others, Gleniti, the scratch horse, bringing up tse rear. Going out of the home straight. there was little to ohoose between Whisper, Senator, "and St. George, the trio being" followed at a slight interval by Carl and Kosetta. In the back stretch Senator lost his place by breaking, and Carl, when nearly up to the leaders, also left his feet. Right up to the homo turn Whisper held her own, with St. George, while Carl and Senator were running just behind the pair. A furlong from home Whisper stopped, and by a final effort Senator got up and beat St. George home by a little over a length.
