GREYMOUTH NOTES.
{SPECIAL TO "THB FBESS.") GREYMOUTH, April 9. Tie Premier yesterday telegraphed in reply to enquiries when work" on the Midland . Railway would be recommenced at Otira, as follows:— "Nothing will be done at the Otira Gorge without the elaborate surveys that have been recommended by Air Boguc. Understand from the Hinister of Public Works, that these "surveys are in hand."
In regard -to" the > proclamation of the Urey River as a sludge channel, Mr Guinness to-day received the foitowing telegram from the Minister of Mines:—"Arrangements are now being.made for an officer to proceed to Gieymouth to pay the compensation claims Grey River, and when claims are settled, the river will be proclaimed." Mr Gordon, who is to assess the compensation, is how on the Coust. The officer from the Mines Department is expected here in a day or two. He will have the power and money to settle with claimants on the snot.
