CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION.
A meetiag »i t>he .committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held in tire Clarendon Hotel on Tuesday* evening , . Present—Messrs G. H. Mason (in the chair), J. R. Evans, F. T. Evsms, J. C. Adams, H. Orchard, F. E. Asquith, E. T. Harper, and W. G. Garrard. The SydenJiam Footba'.l Club ■wrote complaining of the treatmen b received at tlie laaada of the railway officials on lbs return journey from Dunedin. A carriage liad been pioperly reserved and niarked off at Dunediaj, but-at Tiimrii the stafcionmaster had taken down the ticket vritb "reserved" marked on it, and told a lot of passengers to get into the carriage. Further, the guard had stopped niembeirs of the team from smoking. It was •''lβ-* solved to with the Traffic Manager on the matter. It was resolved, on tli-a motion of Mr G. ,H. Mason, that the Union's delegate to the New Zealand Rugby Union be instructed to staoogly support the proposal to. send a Haw Zealand team to England, and as it is uoderstood that the ton. secretary of the Xow Zealand Rugby Union ie visiting England, that advantage should be taken of the oppc-rtunity to pkes the position of New Zealand playera regarding English rules on professiionalism clearly before tfee English Union witi>\a'-view~ to neceeauy amendmenit in the English Rugby Union rul« to permit a team being sent Home from tbis colony. The sub-committee recommended that entrance fe» ehould be done away with in competitions for the present season, and that tive games should be arranged if possible with Otago and Wellington. The reoommendations were adopted. \
