MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.
A harvest thanksgiving service was held in St. Lake's Ohurcb, Brookside, on Sunday. The Rev. J. Blackburn preached to a large congregation. The church was nicety decorated witb> fuit, vegetables and flowers by Use ladies of the congregation. Mrs Geo. Trapnell presided at the brgatf. The frnib and vegetables will be seafto the Children's Convalescent Home, New .Brighton. ~ The first meeting of the newly-formed Cathedral Union was held in Christ's College Library on Monday evening. The interim committee brought up a report suggsssting the objects, rolesv etc, of <fcr Union. This with soma amendments was adopted by the meeting. The officers are as follows:—-Patron, the Right Rev. the Bishop! president* the Very IW. the Dean; secretary, Eev. H. f. Purchastreasurer, Mr W. J. Wood; committee, Rev. W. Dunkley and (Messrs Bowker, Coles, Blake and Tipler. Forty-one members have already joined. A paper was read by the Rev. A. C. Hoggins, dealing with the social work of the Ch«rch, especiaH ly as carried on by the Christian Social Union. At the next meeting Mr S. Hurst Seager wtll deliver a lecture upon the growth of Cathedral architecture.
