DRAINAGE BOARD.

The Drainage Board met yesterday afternoon. Mr J. Deans was in the chair, and there were present Messrs R. M. Taylor, G. Mclntyre, C. Burgess. J. Downs. W. E. Satrnels, G. Palairet, R. Pitcaithly and Dr. Mcorhouse. The secretary and treasurer reported that from March Bth to Aprl sth, £866 13s Id had been received in rates, and £47 2s 3d had bsen received from ether sources; .£6656 4s lid had bten expended on the rate account, and £2514 10s 9d on the 1 loan account. The rate account was £5233 : . in drbit, and the loan account was 7s 7d in credit. Tlie Kngiiiecr in his report stated that the work in connection with the 12incU diameter overflow pipe from the head of the Lincoln Road storm water sewer had baen completed. Great inconvenience had recently been caused in Montreal street , south through flooding of the district, owing jto the outlet pipe becoming choked. He 'recommended that a length of 40 feet be relaid at a cost of about £6, and that a 12-inch diameter pipe be laid with cement joints for the length of three chains of Oharlesworth drain. The cost would be about £20. The report was adopted. The Colonial Secretary wrote stating that the Auditor-General Tiad been appointed to arbitrate re itae commission on the Sydenham rates. The letter was received, and Messrs Mclntyre and Samuels were appointed to represent the Board. An objection was made by the CitT Conncil to the ventilated sewer'traps being placed in the footpaths. The Engineer was instructed to confer with the City Surveyor on. the matter. A letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council, asking the Board to take over a drain pipe- extension in Brougham street. It was decided to take over the drain, provided the Engineer's requirements were carried out. The Avon Eoad Board applied for the ■usual grant towards the cost of cleaning the River Styx. It was decided to pay the amount. The Riccarton Road Board wrote, asking the Board to resume control and maintenance of the natural water-course running from the Riccarton road to the Mill dam. The request was complied with conditionallq. Mr E. C. Derry applied for permission to pipe in a small stream running- through \ his section at the corner of Ayre and Station roads, Lower Riccarton. The letter was received. Messrs Hannan and Stevens wrote, enquiring whether the Board took control of the new drain in R.S. 76. The Board decided to take over the drain, subject to the usual conditions. Mr T. W. Cable asked for permission to fill in a drain running through his section R.S. 263, near Madras street, St. Albans. Mr John Edmunds wrote, objecting to the proposed filling in. The Engineer was requested to report on the matter at the nerb meeting. Mr G. Melntyre gave notice to move at the next meeting—"That the Board appoint a Farm Committee." The Board then went into Committee, and on resuming adjourned.
