The Vickers-Maxim Company Las submitted to the War Office an* armoured motor car for coast defence, adaptable for service in the field, and carrying a pom pom and two smaller guns of the Maxim pattern. De. la Rey has under bis direct command nine hundred men, and is easily able to concentrate two thousand. Beyers is in command of four hundred Boers at Zoutpansberg, and Alberts and Opperman nave four hundred under them at Bethel. Small bodies are Ermelo, Piet Retief, and between the Yosai., Poichefstroom, and Vereenigning. About four hundred and fifty of the enemy are- scattered nortih-east of Orange, Zastron, Ficksburg, and Brandwater, and five hundred and fifty are in Cape Colony, chiefly in the vicinity of Gairies and Calvinia. Dβ la Rey used tnree guns and a pom pom on the occasion of -the fight at Boschbult. The British succeeded in silencing one of the enemy's guns.
