THE TRAMWAY MEETING AT SOCKBURN.

TO THK KDITOR OF THK TRESSi * * Sir,—Your reporter was evidently under a misapprehension when he ivrote 60 as baing the number present at the tramway meeting at Sockbura on Friday; the number nresent was nearly . one hundred. He" also states that Mr G. W. Rnsssll quoted the Act to show that the Riccarton Road Board would not be able to thwart the Templeton Board in the matter iof a tramway. Now, Sir, Mr Russell read sub-section 2 of Section 10 of the Tramway Act, 1894. which deals with laying a tramway .in two or more districts, and which states" that the Governor may make an order authorising the construction of a- tramway through a district that objects to it, providing he is satisfied, after enquiry., that two-thirds of the length of such tramway is proposed to be laid in the district of the local authority proposing to ijjt a tramway: and such being so. I rtat?d distinctly that it did materially affect us, as cnlv just over onetliird of th; total distance of the proposed tramway is in this district, and we should be entirely at the mercy of the Riccarton Road District, and hence the necessity of a County Council to deal with such matter?. Will yon kindly insert this, and state if you consider Mr Russeil could possibly quote the clause referred to in th? connection referred to in that report.—Yours, etc., WJI. J. GUY. Chairman of Meeting. Yaldhatst, April 7th, 1902.
