CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
A meeting of the Council of the Cantrt» bury Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs J. B. Fisher (in the chair), C. Meredith-Kaye, 2. J. sSloman, W. Edwards, J. E. Clark, R, D. Hannan, A. Scobt, G. B. Ritchie, W. Izard, and Dr. B. M. Moorhouse, Mr Andrew Beatlie was appointed honorary ranger at Hororata. Mr Joseph Haydon was granted leave of absence. A number of reports were received from rangers. Correspondence complaining of trout-poaching and shooting hares out of season was dealt* with. The chairman said the Joint Committee had met and decided to recommend that the secretary (Mr H. A. Bruce) be re-appointed; that Mr Douglas be reengaged as ranger; that th&v services of the other paid rangers be dispensed with, and that it be left to the incoming Council to appoint temporary rangers; that applications for the position of curator be invited at £125° per annum j that the present site of the hatching house is unsuitable; that not more than £25 be expended in repairs to the curator's house. The report was - adopted after discussion. A number of other matters were dealt with, and the , Council adjourned. •
