THE "AGE" ATTACKS MR BARTON.

MELBOURNE, Decen, ber 18. The "Age" says:—"Wft are told that New Zealand, with a population of 810,000, can send away another contingent of one thousand men. This proper sign of the publio spirit does credit to Mr Seddon's sense of the colony's Imperial obligations. Australia talked a great deal about coming into nationhood. If we axe a nation amongst nations under the British Hag, we must, in self-respect, play a man's part amongst men. When the Empire is in the throes of battle we cannot,in decency fo*d our anna under our vines. Mr Barton's attitude is a distinct disappointment to hundreds of thousands of patriotic Australians." The "Age* denounces Mir Barton's want of enthusiasm, and says there is wisdom in Sir Wilfrid Laorier and Mr Seddon's offers tha* far transcends the physical value of any troops sent, and ia an eloquent answer to a flood of vituperation and spite.
