SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held yesterday, when Mr R. Westenra. Chairman, presided. t Mr Rennie moved, pursuant to. notice, That the resolution passed on the 25th September, charging the cost oi widening the centre water-race to the Ellesunere di£ tnct, be rescinded, and that such cost be equally divided between the Hororata and Eilesmere districts." Institution wrote,, thanking the Council for re-electing Mre Black. , The Rakaia Road Board forwarded a cheque for £80 oa account of +he Hospital and Charitable Aid. The Board also asked for the annual subsidy, of £10 for small birds. The Council agreed to grant the request. The Department of Public -Health wrote, asking that the Council should empower one or more of the Council's members or some' responsible official to see that the provisions of the Health Act were .carried out ; during the intervals between the sittings of the Council. . The importance of promptitude in isolating infectious cases and warning people of the liability of selling food exposed to infection was also pointed out. The letter was received.

From Mr McKenzie, Sydney, under date of December 6th, stating that the order for timber for White's Bridge had been put in hand, aad some of it would be delivered with the piles leaving Sydney in about a fortnight. From the Rakaia Road Board, enclosing a statement of accounts in connection with the rebuilding of the .Rakaia Bridge, showing the amount paid by the Board. The letter was received. " .

From the Riccarton Road Board, stating that thq Board l approved generally of a tramway being Ipid along the Riccarton road, but there was some doubt as to whether, it was intended to carry the line along the Riccarton road running between the North and South Parks, or whether it is intended to carry it around tlie north or south boundary of these parks. The Board would be obliged for definite information as to route, position of line on road, and class of service to be provided.
