CITY ABATTOIRS.

The following letter has , been received by the .'City Council from the Department of Agriculture, in connection with, the question of abattoirs:—^ "December. 14th, 1901. "The Town Clerk, Christchurch. . "Sir, —In reply to' .your letter of 4th inst., I have tbe honour to forward.here- . with on instrument signed by the Hon Minister for Agriculture, authorising your Council to establish an abattoir ior the City of Qhristchureh, and the Boroughs of Linwood, New Brighton,. St. Aibans, Sumner, Sydenham, and Woolston. The Gazette notice, jn aocordanoe with section 16, will. bg, published as soon as the abattoir is completed. ,A copy of the enclosed in&trument is forwarded to the Town Clerks of each of the above-named boroughs for the information of the Borough Councils. With regard to clause 2of the conditions, 71 is considered desirable, in view of the site and plans having been sanctioned before .the joining in of the boroughs, that they should,be again formally approved by the Minister ac for the city and boroughs jointly Will you, therefore, kindly, submit them again as soon as possible.—j. D. Ritchie, Secretary." The conditions of the establishment of the abattoir are as follows: —1. The City Council cf Christchureh shall bear all cost' of establishing and maintaining the abattoir. 2. The plans*of*such abattoir shall be submitted to the-Minister for Agriculture, and- such plans and -proposed site must be approved by him. 3. Ail batchers using the abattoir- for the purposes of the above-named boroughs shall pay charges for the usis of the abattoir, or for the storage of stbet or carcases therein; or for the slaughtering of stock therein, or for stallages, rents, or tolls, in connection therewith, the same rates as shall be paid by butchers using it for the purposes of the "City of Chrietchurch.
