NEWBURY-SPADA CONCERTS.
The change in the weather no doubt was responsible last nistt for the small attendance at the Newbury-Spada concert in the •Choral Hall. It certainly seems a reflection on our musical taste that two artists such as Madame Spada and Mr Newbury, B>vrng sack excellent programmes, should not be better supported. Madame Spada in the first part sang artisticady Goring Thomas s song, M Summer Night," and was also heard to advantage in the beautiful trio, "O Memory." In the second part Madame sang with much pathos and expression a pretty slumber song,! "Hush. My Little One," and for an encore gave "KiLarney' very finely. In tbe two concerted pieces, the* quartette, "Sweet and Low," and the diet with Mr Newbury, "Home to our Mountains. 1 ' which were two of the gems 'of the evening. Madame. Spada was also very good. Miss Graham, who was in excellent voice, »ye "Beauty's Eyes, and "For AU Eternity." She also took part in the concerted pieces -uccesefuky. Miss Katie Young, in addition to accompanying the various items, played « piano solo bnlliantlv. The cbanwns aa, "Whener xou j Walk,'' was magnificently sun* by Mr PttUip Newbury, who responded *o the encore with "Mary of Argyle." Ia the second part Mr Newfrury sang Tom Moores . "Oft in the Stilly Night' splendidly, and was recalled. In the concerted> pieces, particularly in the duet wiA Madame Spada, I Mr Newbury ww fce>*4 to the greatest advantage. Mr *«*>M»ara *?« 'J** Bedouin Love SongT, and 'The Miner exceDentlv. A little girl, Rome Scapens, five years of age, gave a violm solo well. Miss Marsden played WTenawski s Lecende," and <Mr Corrigan gave a couple of cWonet'solo*. To-night Madame fcpada and Mr Newbury will make their last appearauce. Madame Spada smgs The Jewel Song" from "Faust,; and also ballads. Mr Newbury wi-1 sing Waft her Angels," "Adelaide," and the garden scene from "Faust"-with Madame Spada.
