DEFAULT CASES. In tlie following civil cases at.>the. Magistrate's Court yesterday, in which the defendants did not appear, Messra W. H. Cooper and R. M. Taylor, J.P.s, ga,vo judgment by default for the -plaintiffs: —Christchurch --.Merit Company v D. Fry, 16s lid; John Joyce v Michael O'Brien, £2 8s; H. Matson and Co. v Joseph McCleUaad,- £6 8s IOd; Robert Derritt v Wm. Butter, £2 12s; John Joyce v Arthur H. Vine, £9 3s. HIRED., OR. LENT? Wm. Heme (Mr Hoba'n). sued Richard Sharp (Mr Dougall) for £3 2s, 6d, alleged to be duo- as' payment- for the hiring of a horse for twenty-five" days ' for ploughing. The defence was. that the horse ■was only lent. The evidence upon the point being contradictory, the Bench dismissed the case.
