The attendance was also larger than ' usual • In the store sheep pens there were 2214 '• offered, being mostly wethers . and ewes, and lambs. Up to a cer- ; tain .'limit' there was rather better - competition for ewes and lambs, and most of 1 the lots changed hands. The principal sales were:—4oo two and four-tooth shorn weth- • ers 12s 6d, 137 four-tooths lis 6d, 359 two > and four-tooths 8s 6d to 8s 9d, 104 ewes and lambs 9s id, smaller lots 7s to Bs. A line of 129 hoggets were passed at lis 6d. There were 500 fat lambs' offered, this be- • ing the largest entry o£ the season, and all • were bought by the trade at prices slightly below those of last week. Best sorts • made 14s to 16s 3d, and others, lis 6d to 15s 6d. Messrs Washbourne Bros.' pen of lambs that took first and special prizes at tht- Ellesmere Shiow, made 15s sd. There was a large mixed entry of fat sheep, principally crossbred .and merino ! wethers, a considerable proportibn of both classes being shorn. The- market opened at'last weeks rates, butchers being.the only buyers operating: The supply was somewhat beyond requirements,* and towards ■ the dose of the sals competition became slack and prices easier.. Shorn sheep sold better than those in the wool. There were i but' few special lots in, the market being j topped by halfbred *'wethers at 22s sd, I from Mr E. Herring, Alford" Estate, and the'same owner's merino wethers sold, up [to 21s 9d. Purebred Southdown shorn : wethers from.the flock of the late Mr ,«. Garforth made 17s 9d, and Mr J. Deans.s Southdown cross wethers 20s. 4d.
