SIR HECTOR MACDONALD
PARADE OF BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL CADETS.
General Sir Hector Macdonald was pre* sent at a parade of the Boys' High. School Cadets yesterday, , There was sn excellent muster of the cadets, the number ou parade being 52,, under Captain Miisom and Lieutenante R. Deans and J. Deans. Major Richards, the instructor of ±he corps, was present, also the chairman of the Board of Governors of Canterbiiry College (Mr T. S. Weston), the headmaster (Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown), and the masters. There was a large gathering of parents and of the general public. After the cadeta had been put through physical. drill by Captain Maluom, they were briefly aadrewed by Sir Hector" Macdonald, who complimented them upon the excellence of their drill, which, he said, had been done smartly, and with a will. He impressed upon them the necessity of being good shots, and of the importance of obedience, and drill. Mr Bevan-Brown thanked Sir Hector for being present, and said that the day was a. memorable ca»» in the history. of "the school, as they, had just received intelligence of the death of one of the former members of the corps, who had been serving his country in South Africa. Mr Weston, on behalf of the Board of Governors; state..i hit appreciation of Sir Hectors kindness in visiting the school. He expressed the <hone that in the interests of the Empire there would be more visits to the colonies of men distinguished in the Empire. The proceedings cloeed with hearty cheers for Sir Hector Macdonald. Sir Hector left for the north* by the Mararoa last night. A large crowd gathered at the Railway Station at expecting Sir Hector would travel by the express, but those present were disappointed, for it h=vd been arranged that he should leave quietly by a special train at 9.55 p.m. At ten minutes to 10 o'clock the General, accompanied by his Worship the Mayor (Mr A. K. G. Rhodes) and Captain Dudley Alexander, drove to the station from Tβ Koraha, the crowd outside the building cheering enthusiastically. Mr P.
