AFTERNOON SITTING* / f The annual session of' t*te Chrisfceburch Diocesan Synod was continued yesterday [ afternoon, at Christ's College Library. REGISTRATION OF PARISHIONERS. Pursuant to notice, Mr S. S. Blacfcburne . moved:—"That the Bishep be respectfully requested—U) To authorise and direct that notices concerning ejections to the General Synod and the Diocesan Synod, be included in the notices given out in Church. (2) to instruct the Archdeacons to coll and , inspect' the Churchwardens' books of registered parishioners at their visitations, in order to ensure that the books are being properly kept." The first section of the motion was carried without discussion, but objection was taken to the second part by the Archdeacons. On the Bishop's suggestion Mr Biackburae withdrew this part of iris mo- ' tion. STANDING ORDERS. _Mr G. Mclntyre moved, in effect, that No. 37 of the standing Orders of the Synod, certified as in force at the close of the annual session of 1898, be altered by striking out the word "not," in the second line, and inserting the wcrd "now," and No, 5* of the said Standing Orders be annulled. The resolution was carried unanimously without discussion. MARRIAGE FEES. The Rev. H. E. East moved—"That it be. a recommendation to the Standing Committee to supply to surrogates and churchwardens printed slips showing the amount of the .fees for marriage licenses, marriages after banns, and certificates, and their re-, spective appropriation, in order .that, as occasioTci arises, such slips may be l&nded to applicants for. marriage in the Church." The Rev. 'East explained that the object of the resolution was to disseminate' information concerning the disposal and application of marriage fees, and to prevent future misunderstandings. The Rev. A. W. Averill seconded the resolution. A division was called for, and the resolution 'was lost. COMPLETION OF THE CATHEDRAL. Mr J. [ The following notices of motion were given: —For Tuesday—"That resolution 10 of the resolutions on the 'Mode of Election of the Standing Committee' be referred to the Standing Committee for consideration and report to the next Synod, with the view of obviating all unnecessary publication of the votes of either order re- | ceived by nominees who have failed of ; election." (Canon Knowles.) • "That in | view of the great importance of securing a larger measure of pecuniary support of the-j Clergy, Widows', and Orphans' Fund from the churchpeople of the diocese, this Synod , regards with cordial approval the recom- I inendation of the Bishop in his address to ! Synod, that 'bhe offering at confirmations : in the diocese should be devoted in aid of this fund." (Rev. Williams).
