MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
INEBRIETY. -* At the Magi strata's Court yesterday, Mr H, W. Bishop, S.M., fined a first offender for inebriety ss, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, and Francis 10s, in default forty-eight hours' incarceration. ALLEGED INDECENCY. •In the case of Charles Wilson, charged with indecent exposure, Mr Cassidy, who appeared for accused, asked.for.a< remand until this morning. The application "was granted. A PROHIBITED MAN IN TROUBLE. William "Frederick Naylor, who was convicted for the second time of being on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, was fined £5 and costs, with the alternative of a month's imprisonment. . MAINTENANCE CASES. Ford was ordered to pay 5s a weak ; towards the support of each of two children in th© Burnham. Industrial School. No orders jWere made in th* case of Michael Ryan (who was alleged to be failing to maintain his father), and Peter Brannigon, whose circumstances were not such as to allow .him to maintain his sister. James E» Flint was ordered to pay Is 6d a week toward the maintenance of each of three infant children. J ALLEGED' BURGLARY. j At Rangiora yesterday Stanley Dale, for wihom Mr Harvey appeared, was charged before Dr. MoArtxvur, S.M., and Mr E. B. Good, J.P., with stealing pipes, razors, cigarettes, shaving 'brushes, soap, tobacco, and a shilling's worth of bronsse ,from the shop of J. Kirk, who said hie E remises were «k>sed~on October 9bh, and c was "away at the Labour, Day excursion. Ha identified two pipes, and thte empty tobacco box, part of the lid of , which was left on his premises, and fitted to another part of th£ box found in accused's possession by the police. D. Haggerty, employ-' ed by Kirk, identified four pipes and a, Bengal razor. J. T. Brioe stated on the 10th. he purchased, from accused two razors, . five case pipes/ three knives, and two shaving .brushes for 30s.' Detective Pahey, ■vrho, arrested accused, gave evidence of finding part of the property and the tp-~. baccoT>ox, part of the lid of which was in |' Kirk's, shop. , Accused reserved Ms defence, and 'was committed for trial. Bail was allowed, accused in £50, and two sureties o! £50 each. " . PROMISSORY NOTE CASE. At Rarigiora Court Dr. McArthur, 8.M., gave "judgment, for plaintiff in . thte cage J. W. Swift (Mr JoWton) v. G, Milne (Mr. Bishop), claim £10. His Worship held that "when, the promissory notes of £10 each' were given by four, persons as collateral eacurity.for a lien given by W. White to plaintiff, they must have "Been aware that upon the nature of the transaction their guarantee was not discharged till the liabiltiy of White to Swift was totally discharged. t ■ '
