THE WRECK OF THE WHAKAPAI.
NAUTICAL ENQUIRY. (PBESS TELEGRAM.) > AUCKLAND, October. 21. The nautical enquiry concerning the cap sizing .of the scow Whakapod between th? East Mand and the mainland was continued to-day. Captain Lambert, commander of the Te Anou, which steamer it,was alleged passed the scow when she wa:j in trouble, said that when the Te Anau was passing that particular place at the time of the capedziae of the Whakapai, the third officer (Mr Hazard) was in charge . of the deck, and no distress signal wus seen by either the officer or any of the . crew. The weather was somewhat thick when the Te Anau <was passing East Island and there was some difficulty in seeing a mile ahead. The enquiry has fceen further ~ adjourned rill Thursday, when tlhe evidenca of the third officer of the' To Anau will be taken.
