LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN. A meeting of the League of Wheelmen Council was held last evening. Present— Messrs- W. G. Atack (chairman), J. H. Parker, G. E. Good, A. B. Kirk, and B. P. Gully. A letter was received from the Premier regretting that he could not hold out any hope of a vote of money by the Government to the League far cycling sports' championship meetings being passed this session. The Auckland <3enta» of the LeagiM wrote stating that it had been decided to write to the League Council asking whether both sections (amateur and 'cash riders) might compete in an open road race, or if it was necessary to ob,tain the Council's permission to ride:. It was also asked whether Clause B, pajje 4, amateur section, or "Law 10, Clause D, page 21, dealt conclusively with the subject. The questions were asked' as an affiliated dtcb of the Centre had- advertised an open- road raoe, and another affiliated' club objected ■to their amateur members competing. * The Chairman< said the League exercised "no jurisdiction, over road races. Cash, amateur, and even unlicensed riders could compete in road races, but bad to, take prizes in the section to which they-belonged. It was resolved to reply to this' effect. * The Waimate, Otaflo, and Oamaru- Caledonian Societies wrote stating .their -desire torafjihate with the League. Strong comment was made on the fact that ,the. South. Canterbury Centre had 'lately failed to hold any'meetings or answer the corresporklierice of the League's secretary (Mr _?.- Kesteven)'. - It was resolved that if the' Centre does not take action' within a week to call- its annual meeting, and affiliate the Waimate, and Oantttvu Caledonian Stale-ties' to that Centre, the Council will be compelled! to remove the headquarters - of- .the Centre to Oamaru.
