CROSS-COUNTRY STEEPLECHASE MEETING.

The fifteenth annual Cross-Country Steeplechase Meeting, promoted by tho Pioneer Amateur .bicycle -and Athletic Club, - took .place at the Show Grounds, Aldington, on Saturday. A cold easterly wind blew over the ground all the afternoon, making it decdedly unpleasant for the hundred or so spectators who were present. - Tne Steeplechase was won by S. S. _. Robertson, whoso running and judgment were admirable, while tho hnal ot the i22oyds Flat _andicap.waa-.wori .by W. Wallace, after a magnificent finish. Robertson set his own pace from the start, and before the -final'la-p"had contrived to place a, considerable distance between himself and the next competitor, Simpson. The l*tt«r waa jumping remarkably well, and running a very good race until.tbe last lap, when he appeared to be somewhat exhausted. However, ho could not overtake Robertson, who won easily by some 200 yards. The three placed men were the only ones who finished. Robertson's time„ waa 17min Bsec, and Simpson's time was 17min 43sec.
