The Southland Sawmillers' Union telegraphed the .Premier urging the desirability of imposing a sufficiently high, export duty on bulk timber to secure from x ibe Commonwealth just v treatment for New Zealand, on the ground, that if the proposed tariff become Tlaw the colony will be denuding its forests for the- benefit of Australia, without securing* any compensating advantage.
