It will fee wen that in Ancfcaol and Wellington a movement is on foot to send some Christmas gifte to the New ZealanderS who are still fighting in Sootit Africa, with A view of affording thettt some slight encouragement in the very frying, wofkifl Which they are engaged, and showing them that <hey are not forgotten by th«fef fellow colonists. As there tra* some doubt owing to the difficulties" of military t**aqp6rt, as to tfie possibility of gefiiing parceW Mlitered to the men, we wrote to Colonel RoblD and Colonel Jowtey, asking what, in the light of their experience in South Africa, they thought of the matter. They very kindly sent the following replies j — From Lieut-Col. Robin, the Officer Com. mailing Otago Militia, and Volunteer District, ikHWdln:—"Glad to learn by yotir memo of 11th that triads in South Africa, are Jbeiug remembered. From the state , of nftairs when 1 left South Africa t tkiftk there should be gck>d prospect of men getting Articles if they are in small parcel*. 1 would suggest email parcels, addressed to the captain of tbe compftdy t6 which the man or men belong, clearly naming thte Contingent, and, if possible, the ttamt of force they are operfcting with, the wnole address on package being; caw of the 8.0. or General of the Line* of Cbmmonication, Capetown, with ft letter that parcels We been s«nt, and I am sore be would facilitate delivery. Or, although, somewhat more expensive* parcel post. Sntail parcels through the post-are. generally more certain of reaching men or a unit. Again, Mr Pilc&ef, at the Cape, h!a« generally a good knowledge of where the various unite are." From Xiieut.'Col. Jow*«y, Tlmarui— "Your desire to send to «ur men in Sooth -Africa AMitttihing in tb* way ot Christmas cdntfdrts will* I«m mve, gladden their be&rte, end feeling they are not forgotten will help them in the tiresome work they have in -ftand. I here every r<**>n to believe that whatever ift cent tfeem now tiey will Teceive. I would ettggest you address parcels to the officer commanding Contingent, end •**[*» Officer ih Charge J?oetaJ Department, Capetown. I trust* yon will tobtt with the sueceee the movement de* serves." In a postscript Col. It wa# thoughtful and kind of you, therefore appreciated accordingly by ell." These letters are very satisfactory, *nd if our readers will only'send Oα their donation* in «»dt of th* funi at oiee we have little doubt of being able to get to "Our Boy*" at tiie front-a jfle&*on*ble and kindly reminder that they are not forgotten. It ie evid«nt that if afijl&iftg ia to be done it must be done ab one*, and we hope th*t contribtttlonii will be'Teeitt in quickly. It is not necessary to raise'e/Wge fund, and we do not «*k for large'tjubeeriptions.
