THE PENALTY FOR NOT VOTTING.
RE-ENROLMENT NECESSARY;
As they did not exercise their right of voting at the bye-election yesterday, nearly one half of feba electors in the Chriatchurohi constituency will have their names struck off the roll. It is now their duty, therefore to see that they. a<re again enrolled. Tbe 'application forms, for enrolment can be obtained from the Registrar of Electors, Mr L. C. Williams, whose office is in IngUsV buildings, Cashel street. The claim for
enrolment must, be witnessed by the Registrar, Doputy-Registrar, Postmaster; Justice of the Peace, or by an elector whose nanve is already on t.h« Christchurch. Toll. /Under ifac Act of 1896 any elector could witness a claim for enrolment, but under the amending Acfc of l*st session the claim can only ibe mode in the presence of an elector of the district in which the elector resides. It is now the duty of members of the police force, postmasters, clerLs of courts, and registrars <if old a£e pensions, \rhen requested by the Registrar of Electors, to assist him by informing him of the name of any qualified person who is not. enrolled. The Registrar has*" to g* Te notice to those whose name has bwn erased from the roll in consequence of their not having voted, and it would be a good plan if a orm * or enrolment were posted along with the notice.
