NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

The Josephine Stanton Comic Opera Company open their season at the Theatre Royal on Monday next in "Fra Diavolo." Miss Stanton will takelhe part of Zerlina, and Mr A. Hallam that of Fra Diavolo. The parts of Lord Allcaeh and Lady Al-1-cash will 'be filled by Mr George Kunkel and Miss Clara Wisdom. In the second act of the opera the sextette from "Lucia di Lammermoor" will be given. A matinee baa been arranged for Thursday afternoon. A meeting of the Hockey Association will be held at the City Hall this eyening, at 7.30.

What is called an indignation meeting of citizens will be held on Monday evening next at which addresses will be delivered by a number of ministers and other gentlemen against the proposal to extend the period of tftie Local Option Bill. The monthly medals in connection with the Chri-stchuroh Golf Club will be played for to-morrow, weather permitting.

To-night there, will be a concert at the Canterbury Hall, under the auspices of the Loyal Orange Institution, the proceeds of which will be devoted to the Jubilee Memorial Fund. The programme is a very excellent, one, and there should be a good attendance.

Meetings in connection with the special missio-n at the Church of Christ will continue on through next week. Mr Turner, evangelist, of Wanganui, is delivering special on the plan of salvation. The beautiful furniture manufactured by Messrs Strange and Company expressly for the use of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall: nnd suite during their sojourn in Christchurch, is now on view in the windows of the firm's furniture warehouse, corner of High and Lichfield streets, and is attracting crowds of people daily.

The poll for the election of members of the Board of Education closes at 5 p.m. on the 22nd inst. Voting papers have already bean *_-*oTW*irde*_s 'to .the members of the various School Committees. No delay should be made in returning these, as any vot ng paper contained in a letter, the postmark of which is of later date than the 22nd will be invalid. A social and entertainment will be held in the Burwood School, on Friday, 12th July, at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and musical items will be contributed.
