The Mararoa arrived from Dunodin at 6 40 yesterday morning, and left for Sydney, via Auckland, last night. } ' Considerable anxiety is being folt concerning the ship Piako, 997 tons, which left Melbourne on November 21st, for Buffalo River, South Afruca. The vessel is now 137 days out. Messrs Stevens and Pennington, chief offii cers of the Rotokino and Taieri, have exchanged vessels. Mr Alsopp, late third officer of tho I jtaien, has taken Mr Garrick . position on the Rotomahana. the latter having receivod orders to go to Dunedin. The Moura, from Auckland, via the east coast, arrived at 10.30 a.m. yesterday, and left for Dunedin at 4.20 p.m. A record in loading frozen meat at Lyttelton has just been made by the N.Z. Shipping Company's steamer Waimate. The loading began at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 25th, and finished at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th, during which time, a little over four working day 3, 72,502 carcases of mutton and lamb had been put on board. The staff of the Wellington office of the Union Steam Ship Company made a presentation on Monday evening to Mr F. L. Bias, traffic manager of the branch, in view of his approaching marriage. Mr W. A. Kennedy, local manager for the company, made complimentary reference to Mr Biss's long and valuable service to the company, which has extended over eighteen years. Tho initial run in the Union S.S. Company's new coastal service, between Dunedin and New Plymouth—via Oamaru, Timaru, Akaroa, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Nelson—is to be made by the Upolu, leaving Dunedin at noon yesterday. She would leave Oamaru on Tuesday evening, Timaru yesterday morning, Akaroa yesterday evening, and Lyttelton to-day. arriving at Wellington on Friday morning, and sailing the same day for Nelson, going from Nelson to New Plymouth, then back to Wellington, leaving there on Wednesday week for Lyttelton, Akaroa, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin. By the inauguration of this sorviice Wellington merchants will be brought into direct communication with Timaru and Oamaru.
