THE MARKET PLACE SITE CHOSEN. A meeting of subscribers with reference to the memorial sits was held yesterday. There was not a large attendance. Tne Mayor presided, ami read several letters, ok** from. Messrs Field and Furrier, enclosing £55 5s j. ova iroin the Beautifying Association, forwaiding tlreir resolution in favour of Market Square; one from Mr T. !>. He moved an amendment to this effect, whioh was seconded by Mr Mumiy-Aynsley, who urged that this would most effectually elicit the opinion of the subscribers. On a division only six hands were held up for Mr Stavele-y's amendment, which was lost. The Mayor of New Brighton I th£« ppoke in favour of tho site being on the part of tJh* Square occupied by tlie Band Rotunda, but the Chairman pointed I out that there was a difficulty in connection with the endowment of that part of the Square which would prevent it being alienated for tlie purpose without legislation.

The site recommended by the Executive Committee was then ogreed'to. The Mayor announced what 3>ad been done with regard to the War Fund Committee voting £175 towards the bas-relief of the statue, and the meeting terminated.
