THE ROYAL VISIT.
THE RECEPTION OF THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF YORK. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, January 18. The Duke and Duchess of York will have a unique welcome in Wellington, judging from the present intentions of the Maoris. The natives are anxious that all the tribes in the colony shall be represented, and it is also proposed that there should be separate tribal receptions at Papawai, Otaki, and Rotorua. The Arawa tribe, ; which met the Duke of Edinburgh at Rotorua in 1869, is exceedingly anxious to receive a visit from the Duke and Duchess of York, and it is almost certain -that arrangements will be made accordingly. Tamahau Mahapuku, the well-known Walrarapa chic. f . will shortly visit, all the leading Maori settlements in the colony for the purpose of discussing the matter with the chiefs. Mr C. Parata has been appointed organising secretary of the whole movement. He is a very capable and energetic Maori of the modern school. The Duke and Duchess will probably travel through New Zealand by train; at all events, plans are being prepared in the Govergment Workshops for a Royal saloon carriage.
