THE STOLEN CAKE.

TWO LITTLE BOYS CHARGED WITH "BREAKING AND ENTERING." On Sunday, January 6th, Air Henry Box, a coach proprietor, accompanied by bis wife, locked up his house and left the premises, and did not return till the evening. Mrs Box then found that all her Sunday cake had v__iished. Later Airs Box accosted Louis Stokes, a small boy seven years of age, who had been left in charge of the equestrine establishment during the absence of the proprietor. Stokes said a friend of his, Arthur Aldridge, thirteen years old, who was a sort of casual'hand at the same establishment, came along, and suggested that some kind of refreshment- would not be unwelcome, and he helped Stokes through the kitchen window, with instructions t commandeer what cake he could find. After a few minutes' absence, Stokes returned with the unwelcome news that he could not find tire particular edible required. Aldridge promptly gave him a hiding, and then entered, and came back with the booty, which iie himself consumed. A charge of breaking and entering had be.n preferred against Aldridge, and the case was heard before Air H. W. Bishop on Saturday. After some discussion between Inspector Ellison, the prosecutor, ar.d Air Donnelly, who appeared for the boy, the charge was reduced to one of common larceny. At the conclusion of the evidence Air Bishop cautioned the boy severely, ■ asd discharged him.
