THE EXHIBITION.

GYMNASTIC TOURNAMENT. The Gymnastic Tournament was continued at tlie Exhibition on Saturday liefore another large audience, the Wellington representatives being accorded another hearty reception. It was announced that the Wellington ladies' team, consisting of Misses R. Gambrill, J. AlcLcan. Woods, William!!, Churchward, and Gyles had won the dumb bell competition (which was held on Thursday night), and that the same team —with the e\ccption that Miss Innes ri-placed Aliss Williams—had curried off the club swinging event, which took place thie afternoon. Their win was a most popular one alike with the other competitors as with the audience.

The club swinging of the young ladies was a revelation l of artistic, as well as useful, exercise, and a performance on the juiallel bars by Alisses Richardson, Woods, Gyles, Williams, Alt-Lean and Churchward was also an exceptionally fine one, remarkable for neatness and cleanness of execution.

Wellington was most successful, and deservedly won several of the oempetitions.

Th 3 Wellington ladies' team was the only team of ladies entered and their work was beautifully done, especially the parallel bar display. In the clubs display, Aliss E. Innes and Aliss Gambrill replaced Aliss Williams and Miss Richardson. Aliss Williams again taking Aliss Innes' place in the dumbbell display. The ladies' team is considered to be Wellington's best, aud was coached by the Misses Gambrill and Woods. Both are very clever. Air. George Bush, captain of the Fendalton team, did some fine work. He was closely run by 'Air. T. H Harker, captain of the" St. LukVs team, Air. H. Bickerton also doing well. The Wellington men, although not the best team tbe club could produce, was the only team able to go to Christchurch, and acquitted it*Uf well. The members were coached by iAIr. W. G. Somei ville, captain of the team, aud received no outside _i_.s;stance, labouring, in fact, under several disadvantage.., particularly the difficult..- of procuring a gymnasium. The Wellington ttams return this ev.nii-.-_, and speak highly of their reception and treatment in Christchurch, and the courtesy shown them by the other competitors. The highest aggregate for apparatus work was gained by Air. Hubert V. Girdlestone. of the Wellington t am, who secured ths gold medal and ccrti-

It is from this standpoint th 1 .; thsjud_re has been guided in a great ti'ariv instrini.*..-* in awarding points, as well ,-s the actuil work on the apparatus. The .omp.tition. on tbe whole, hns been excel'cnt. iliowing very good results in carriage, b_i->ring, and physical condition generally. Sufficient attention, however, has not been .•riven to the mobility of the chest, and the development of th" lower limbs. Alote points would have been given to some competit'iis on the apparatus if the work had been more graceful and artistic. This esiMH'iallv- apn'ifs to the absence of yielding in des'.-'lKl'llg." . Al . Bryne »I__o states that Bush i.s a model in ciiniac?. Iwirintr, and physical culture, and awarded him the maximum points in the competition in which he entered.
