GREAT BRITAIN AND HER COLONIES.

Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Premier, responding to the Imperial toast at a meeting held at Osgoode, Ontario, said that although the present relations between Great Britain anl her colonies were satisfactory, nobody supposed that this would last. When new problems relating to closer union arose they would be solved on the strictest lines of Canadian nationality and British citizenship. THE WORLD'S STEEL MARKET. The Andrew Carnegie Company, American manufacturers, are establishing steel pipe tuba manufactories in Ohio at a cost of three million sterling. Mr Carnegie declarethat America holds the world's steel market at its mercy. ARSENIC IN FOOD AND DRINK. LONDON, January 11. A Royal Commission, has been appointed to report on the safeguards against arsenic in food and drink.
