A GOOD RECORD AS A SHEARER.
The Mayor of Paliiatua (Mr. J. D. Wilson) unites with hds other occupations that of a shearer, and (says _» con-
temporary) is the champion wialder of the shears in his district. Recently he put up a record py relieving 207 heavy Lincoln sheep of their fleaceg in one day. The local paper credited ih-im with having -horn 220, and his Worship modestly wrote to tha editor giving the correct number. THE MIDLAND RAILWAY SIGNAccording to a Wellington Press telegram, as Mr Napier Bell $;-nnot oome to New Zealand to take .a seat on the Midland Commission till next "month, the ActingPremier has decided that the work will be done entirely by Messrs A. Morrison, R. McKerizie, M.Hjß.'s Hudson and Back, and has suggested that the Commission begin its sittings on the 25th inst. in Wellington
