THE HEMP MARKET.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM ) WELLINGTON, January 10. Mr H. C. Cameron, Produce Commissioner, reports as follows on the hemp market, under date London, November 28th:—"The market for New Zealand hemp during the past few weeks has been strong, and prices have rapidly advanced from £17 per ton to £24, for parcels already landed. Thesa prices have risen in sympathy with those of -Manila stocks, which, though' reported to be heavy at Manila, are light here. Unlike the dairy produce market, the hemp market is a very speculative one. Especially is this so in the market for Manila hemp. Lately this speculative element has been affecting the market considerably, a-though it is reported that large stocks held in Manila, these in the ring have been firm holders. Shipments from there have been curtailed, With the result that prices have risen in anticipation of more stringent measures being taken by the American Government for suppression of hostilities in Manila, thereby curtailing the production of hemp."
