Advices from London by the mail state that New Zealand and Australian -wheat on spot is sharing in the general depression, and in order to sell lower prices have to be quoted. New Zealand Tuscan being worth 31s and Hunter's and pearl about 303.
The local market, is still very quiet, but prices keep steady, and any sales that are eifected are oa the basis of quotations that have been ruling for some weeks past.
A considerable amount of interest has lieen centred in the order of the War Office for a further quantity of oats for South Africa, and it is lUKlenstood that in response to the invitation of the Government for tenders for the supply of 5000 tons, offers of fully 20,000 tuns Avere sent in. The suc-ce.*-sful tenderer lias not yet been officially declave.d. but we are informed that tlie Border Knight, a steamer of about 5000 .'.'•n-i dead Aveight capacity. Avill load at tbe Blti--' and Lyttelton for South Africa about the middle of i»s__t month. A large older has also been placed in Melbourne by the War Office, Avltere oats are quoted at Is to Is 3_,d, sacks included. Local shippers havo secured their lequirements at about ls _>d f.0.b., sacks extra, and the market is now r. shade easier.
The following are current- prices paid to farmers, f.0.b., Lyttelton, for direct shipment from countiy stations and tree of commission, except where otherwise specified: — Wheat—Hunter's, pearl and \*elvet, 2s 4d to _s sd, and Tuscan 2s 5d to 2s 6cl.
Oat.—Canadian Is 9d, short feed ls 8d to 1-* B_.d, Duns Is 7d to ls.Bd, and Danish Is 7d to Is 7.d.
Barky (nominal) —Malting 2s delivered. Bean.:—2s 4d to 2s sd. Peas—Prussian blues 2s to 2s 3d, partridge 2s 4d to 2s 6d.
Flour (miller:.' cnutations nominal) —Roller £7, stone £6.
Sharps—£3 10s, Bran—£3. Oatmeal—£lo.
Potatoes—Derwents 27s 6d to 50s, at country stations.
Oat-sheaf Chaff—4ss at near country stations.
Hay— £s 5s to £3 10s, delivered ; primest baled £4, f.o.b.
Grass Seed—Ryegrass, farmers' lots, ls 9d to 2s, prime heavy, town-dressed, 2s 6d to 3s 3d, cocksfoot 2_.d to 2Jd for bright seed to 3d for extra good, town machine-dressed 161b to 17ib seed, to 4d, cowgrasrs 5d to 6d, extra choice 6A-d, wliite clover 6d to 7_.d.
Dairy Produce—Cheese*, factory, 5d to 6d. dairy 5d to s>_d: butter, factory, local lOd, dairy- 8d to 9d, salt (in boxes) 6d to 7d; bacon and hams, s_,d to 6d; factory bacon and bams, _,d higher.
