THE LATE MR W. GOSLING.
ONE OF CANTERBURY'S EARLIEST SETTLERS.
The late Mr W. Gosling, the Victim of the fatal accident at Timaru on Tuesday, was an old identity. He arrived in the Randolph, one of ths first four ships, and lived in Christchurch till 1863, when lie bought a farm near Temuka, subsequently removing to Coonoor, •west of Timaru, and then a few years back to Timaru. At one time 'he was a member •of the Provincial Council for Geraldine. He leaves one -son (a farmer on the Levels) and five daughters, one of whom is Mrs Haskins, the wife of the town clerk of Christchurch. Mr Gosling, who was bom on April 13th, 1820, was a native of Cheshire, and, before coming to New Zealand, owned a largo engineering establishment in 'Macclesfield. At tho inquest on the body, the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."
