AN ESTIMABLE INSTITUTION.
Soma idea o? -the good work clone by the Christchureh Hospital Lady Visitors' Association is disclosed- in tile report o£ that body, presented at the annual meeting on Monday. A total of 123 patients were assisted during tie twelve mouths, the major portion being sent to convalescent homes, ■vrhik many others were helped in their own bonus. It is only those brought into frequent contact with, sickness who can fully appreciate the value of tka «£forts of the lady membere of such an Association. It is not merely that they soothe the sufferer in times of physical anguish, bat, when that stage has been passed, and the patient begins to realise the costliness of an illness, much of the mental worry consequent on straitened circumstances is removed by these kind visitors. Last year over two hundred garments -were given away by the Association among destitute persons, and beds and bedding were provided in a number of necessitous cases that came ander their notice. 'Ministering to the sick is one of woman's noblest works, and we feel sure that the active interest shown by the Hospital Lady Visitors' Association in the sick and distressed of this district trill be appreciated at its true worth.
