VICTORIAN BUTTER TRADE.
SUGGESTIONS FOR ITS IMPROVEMENT.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, (Received September 15th, 7.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, September 15. The Board appointed to enquire into the deterioration of Victorian butter, haa presented a lengthy report. Among other things the Board recomnwmds that if supplies of butter for the English market were spread out more, the price would be improved. Observation chows that there is much improvement in the quality of butter. The Board thinks the. Government should assist by loans country factories, and considers city factories an anomaly. It urges the formation of a dairy school, end systematic inspection, and that the pasteurising of cream and the use of pure "starters" be made universal throughout the colony as speedily as possible, it also (recommends that a Federal or Australasian officer be appointed to keep a r&cord in London of the quality of Australasian butter and other proc&uoe, and suggests fcLa employment of intelligent market methods proper regulation of supplies, as well as the appointment of a committee, similar to the Danish Committee, to watch the markets.
