MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

A first offender, for drunkenness in Cashel street on Monday, was fined 6s by Mr Beetham. LAYING TOTALISATOR ODDS. Albert fMuir was charged) with laying totalisator odds at Riccarton on .August 16th, on two occasions. Matthew Livingstone was charged with tho same offence. Sergeant Lyons applied for a remand for a week, and as Ma- Harper, who appeared for the defendants, had no objection, the cases were remanded accordingly. CHIMNEY DEMOLITION. On the 27th of last month two boys, Alexander Genet and William Turner, wero seen pulling down two chimneys in a. section at the corner of Tuam and Queen streets. When remonstrated with they said that they were not doing any harm, as the .place had been condemned by the Sanitary Inspector. The boys now said that the chimneys were only bits of bricks stuck up with clay, and were about 4ft high. After Mr Beetham had cautioned the boys he discharged them.
