THE GREY RIVER DREDGE.

According to a West Coast correspondent the mishap to the machinery of the Grey Kiver Gold Dredging Company's dredge occurred some time on Thursday, and was due to the fact that the man whose duty it was, omittv - friction sl,nft > the "bosh" on which fired. It is explained that the shaft rei«l , » to la tho f netion clutch shaft, and the JH' , 18 -f ""K 0 * ? etal carried on the *«ft account of the friction caused by the working of the shaft, to become heated and to fire the dead grease, which results in the "bush" cracking, being twisted out of shape and breaking. The injury done to the Grey River dredge s friction shaft and bush will necessitate the recasting of the parts, and it all depends whether the Dismtch Foundry at trreymouth can do the T.-ork whether it will be two or ten days before the parts can be replaced-if the parts have to be obtained from outside Greymouth it will be ten days before the dredcre can commence work. It was thought probable that similar parts might , be obtained from the Dobson No. 2 dredge, but at the time the correspondent wrote this was not definitely settled. From a paragraph to the Grey River Argus" it would appear that the local foundry was able to supply the damaged parts. (PRESS ASSOCIATION- TELEGRAM.) . DTOEDIN, September 10.
