THE CUSTOMS DUTIES,
REMISSIONS AND REDUCTIOIJS.
The following shows the effect of the reduction of duties as proposed by the Colonial Treasurer: — Tea (except in small packages), now 4d per lb, reduced to 2d per lb. Coffee, now 5d per lb, is to be free. Cocoa, now 3d per lb, is to be free. Kerosenes-oil. now 6d per gallon, is tc bs free. '
Salt, now 10s per ton, is to be free. Rice, now 6s per cwt., is to be free. Currants and raisins, now 2d per lb, reduced to Id. Candles, now 2d per lb, reduced to Id. Mining, agricultural, and dairying machinery, now 5 per cent., to be free. Dredging machinery tp be free. Portable and traction engines, now 5 per cent, to be free. Engines and boilers for <—drying and mining, now 5 per cent., to be free. Patent medicines, now *QQ per cent, ad valorem, to be 15 per cent. Chemists' and druggists' sundries and chemicals, now 20 per cent., to be 15 per cent.
Tlie duty on wax matches, ranging from Is 2d to 2s 6d per {jross, has been reduced one-half.
