SHEEP RETURNS.
(Bt Telegraph.) (from our special corbespontjkkt.) WELLINGTON, July 12? A return prepared by the Chief Inspector of Stock shows that the approximate number of sheep in the colony on April 30th, 1900, was 19,347,346, a decrease of 1160 when compared with the previous year. In the North Island there is an increase over the previous'year's figures of 38,933, but in the South Island there is a decrease of 40,163. The figures for the various districts on April 30th, 1900, are as follows: — Auckland, 901.445, a decrease of 22,522; Napier district, 4.612,655. an increase of 70.326; Wel-lington-West Coast district, 4,478,311, a decrease of 8311; Marlborough-Nelson district, 895,217,~an increase of 22.999; terburv-Kaikoura. district. 4,739.506, a decrease'of 67.898: Otago district, 3,720,231, an increase of 4746,,
