INVERCARGILL, April 23. . The Ho». Mr McGowan visited Orepuki, a rich aUnvial district, and received deputations from the Miners' Association on various subjects. Among: the points brought forward was the necessity for mining interests being represented on Land Boards. Yesterday he visited the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company's works at Orepuki, a British and colonial concern, on which £40,000 have already been expended, and fully £20,000 more would be required before returns could be looked for. The Ministerial party were astonished at the magnitude of the operations and stupendous plant, showing confidence in the soundness of the investment. To-day Mr McGowan visits Round Hill. He receme deputations at Invercargill to-morrow, and then tours Central Otago to see the gold dredging.
