INQUEST.
An inquest touching tho sudden death of Thomas Harrison was faeJd at the Rothetfield on Saturday morning, before Mr R. Beetham, coroner, and a jury of \rhom Mr U. Feast wae ciaoaen loremac. Mr Edward Qniziirs about 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon he heard a gurgling and saw that Harrison had apparently tainted. Dr. Nodwill teieplrooed for and came at once. 'Lite deceased .bad spoken about suffering from patT»« arross h» ctest. Dr. Nedwili depceed that tbe man was dead when he arrived. The post mortem showed that the man hud died irom syncope of the heart. He considered it xras disorcditeb)e that there wae no place io Cbmtchurch for a ntorgue. He bad to perfortn the operation in ua outhouse or stable, where there was not sufficient light. If anything rerious na d to be examined it would have been quite impossible to have made a reliable post mortem. The licensee Jiad rendered him every assistance. The jury returned v verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, adding a rider that they considered it a disgrace to the city of Christchurch that there was no morgue or any facilities for the performance of post mortem examinations.
