AUCTIONEERS AND DEALERS.
The auctioneers and dealers of Christchurch held a sports meeting at Lancaster Park on Saturday, and the knights of the hammer rolled up in force to cheer one another on to victory. The handicapping was done on the ground by a gentleman familiarly addressed as "Dave," who adjudicated all disputes and generally "ran the show." His. lieutenants were equally energetic, and between them they provided an entertainment that more than made up for any deficiencies in the racing. The following are ' the results of the races: —
Auctioneers' JRace, two milea— J. Johns 1, A. Cook 2. Throe Lap Race—W. Clarkson 1, E. Donald 2.
Spectators' Race—D. Cook 1, B. Cook 2. Consolation Race—R. Ballantyne 1, J. Belcher 2.
There were a considerable number of starters for each of those races, and their appearance as they wobbled up the straight to the finish was exceedingly fine. The next annual sports will bo awaited with interest.
