(press association telegram.) NAPIER, April 21. The steamer Afric will complete her term of quarantine to-morrow morning. A proposal was on foot to run excursions out to the steamer in the afternoon, the proceeds to be devoted to the Indian Famine Fund, but a deputation waited on the Mayor protesting against the Afrie being thrown open to the public. The Mayor accordingly decided to abandon the project. THE VITALITY OF RATS. As showing the extraordinary vitality of rats, when the hatches of the barquentine Pendle Hill were opened yesterday, after twenty-four hours' sulphur fumigation, the first thing seen was a live rodent.
