ROAD BOARDS.

MOUNT HUTT. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on the 12th inst. Present—Messrs Morgan, McFarlane, Batty, and Murdock. It was decided to call for fresh tenders for shingling the Rakaia River road, and to roll the Mount Hutt road throughout previous to blinding, also to call for tenders for stone breaking on the Chertsey road. The adoption of a by-law to regulate bicycle and tricycle traffic was confirmed. Mr McFarlane gave notice to move that in future meetings of the Board should be held on the first 'Monday in the month. Accounts amounting to £56 6s 8d were passed for payment. RAKAIA. This Board] met on the 9th April. Present—Sir John Hall (Chairman), Messrs R. Nowell, Bcaley, and W. F. M. Buckley. A circular was read from, the Valuer-General forwarding forms to be signed by vendors and purchasers of rateable properties, and requesting the Board in case of changes of ownership and occupation of properties is tho district, to have the forms properly filled up and forwarded to the Valuation Department. It was resolved that the Valuer-General be informed that the Board will be glad to continue to assist- the Department by supplying, as hitherto, such information as reaches them as to changes, but cannot undertake the work of obtaining the signatures of vendors and l purchasers, as the correction of the roll is properly the duty of the Valuation Department, and if the work required by the circular were accepted by the Board, this duty would almost entirely devolve upon them, and the Department would only have to authorise the Board to make use of its own work. Mr Kenneth Wilson's letter complaining of the rough condition of Ardiui and Terrace roads, was referred to the Surveyor, with instructions to inspect these roads and report on the subject to the next meeting." The Clerk reporjted that the nett proceeds of the sale of surplus timbers from Coalgate ridge amounted to £162 13s Id. The only tender received for the construction of a concrete culvert on Macintosh's crec— was considered excessive, and declined. The Manager of the Hororata Water Races was authorised to call tenders, returnable at the next meeting, for the construction of a concrete culvert on the water race on Race Bridge road. MANDEVILLE AND RANGIORA. The ulonthlv meeting of this Board was held on Aprif6ih. Present—Messrs Buddo (chairman). Leech. Stalker, and Stevenson. It was decided that the butchers should be notified that slaughterhouse licenses are due. Mr F. Gulliver was re-elected as Ranger for dogs on the same terms as last yearT A list of ratepayers in arrears was submitted, and ft was ordered that these should be dealt with. A protest from Mr Crossgrave for the Kaiapoi natives against forming the road off Rowe's road was read, and it was decided to reply that the Board was doing the work as an act of duty to its ratepayers. A letter from Mr Orchard and others, asking to have the bridge over the Taranaki stream raised, was referred to the Surveyor for report. In reply to Mr Kingley. it was decided to ask Mr Ross to open Grimwood's road. It was decided that the road in front of Mr Davis's property should be shingled. A tender at Is Id per yard, for claying and shingling 40 chains No. 3 Drain road and 12 chains Skewbridge road, was accepted. The annual meeting was fixed for May Ist. The receipts for the month were £632 63 7d, and the credit balance £592 Is Id. The outstanding rates were £96 17s lid. Accounts. £45 4s 9d, were passed.
