WATER SUPPLY DISTRICT.
j The annual meeting of the ratepayers of ! the Waimakariri-Ashley Water Supply District was held at the Oust Institute Hail on Saturday. Mr OHalloran presiding. The I balance-sheet for the year ending 31st March, 1900, was read by the Treasurer (Mr McCormack). The Chairman referred to the satisfactory termination of the trouble in connection with the Government grant of £1000 to the Moeraki subdivision. At the reouest of Mr Meredith, M.H.R.. the correspondence on the subject, and the conditions which the Board had. carried out. were read by the Secretary, and received the approval of the audience. In reply to questions by Mx Meredith, the Treasurer, at the request of the Chairman, mentioned that the office expenses, including salaries, amounted to £596; that the members' exnensss to the district were rill, and that the amount of rates on the rate-books for the past year amounted to £2750. The Chairman moved the adoption of the balance-sheet, which was seconded by Mr Tipping, and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks was returned "to the chairman and members.
