CHRISTCHURCH CYCLING CLUB. The unsettled atato of tko weather oa Saturday afternoon was responsible ior the moderate attendance at the first duy of-tho Christchurch Cycling Club's Easter and Tost Race Meeting. It is estimated that there were between three and four hundred persons present. When the first heat of tho*first raco had been got off the committee met, and alter discussion it was decided on with the programme, dospito tho tain, which continued, with only brief intervals, all the afternoon. Shortly after five o'clock it was decided to postpono tho events still -to-be .determined, which included tho 23 miles and 10" miles test races. Considerable interest contred in the one mile unpaced test raco, but it proved of ad unexciting nature, both, competitors keeping together at a medium pace till ehortly before the second round had been completed. At the flagstaff Chalmers appealed owing: to Sutherland, who had had the inner up to the cornor, closing in on him. Ou tho other hand, it was questioned whether thero was sufficient distance between the competitors to justify Chalmers in taking tho inner running. After consultation tho committeo decided to declare that it had been no race, and that it must be run over.

Despite tho wet stato of the track there were comparatively few accidents, two men falling and ono man's chain breaking. The time in the majority of tho events was good. Sutherland got off flr.u, but was soon joined by Chalmers, and the pair kept together afc almost a funoraJ paco till two Tounds had been completed. Opposite the flagstaff Chalmers appealed, alleging tliat Sutherland had fouled by closing in on him. Tho committee- decided' to declare the race off, aiid it will bo. ran over.
